Indonesian language as spoken today is in fact a standardized dialect of Malay, an Austronesian language. Bahasa Indonesia is the official language of Indonesia, the world's 5th most populous nation. Usually, it is spoken to some degree of fluency by over 220 million people, but oddly enough, less than 10% of the population actually speaks it as their mother tongue.
